Capability matrix · Eleven classes · Four platforms

One platform, eleven classes, and what each of the others publishes beside it

Every vendor on this page is good at something. The question this table answers is narrower: which coverage classes each one carries as a first-class capability of its autonomous platform, and which it sells beside the platform as a scoped engagement, an add-on, or a roadmap entry. All four distinctions are checkable in each vendor’s own pages, and every cell below was read there, on the date it carries. Where a competitor beats B-52, the row says so before anything else is argued.

How to read this matrix

The one test every row is scored on

Every row is scored on one question: is the class a first-class capability of the vendor’s autonomous platform, or is it sold beside the platform? The distinction is checkable in each vendor’s own material, and it sits in a different place for each of them. Pentera publishes mobile, thick-client and LLM red-teaming under SECTOR11: scoped human engagements their own page describes as complementing the platform, not being it. Horizon3 sells web application testing as a paid add-on outside every base tier. XBOW places everything except web applications and their APIs on a roadmap, in its own documentation. Hadrian splits discovery (Atlas) from pentest depth (Nova), and nothing on either page reaches inside a network. Neither form is a defect. A scoped human engagement is often the better buy. What a buyer needs is to know which form they are pricing: because the two produce different cadences, different signatures and different per-run costs, and vendor homepages do not volunteer the difference.

The rule applied to every cell: No bare "No", "Partial" or "Unknown": each cell carries the vendor’s own published language (or the precise absence), the page it was read on, and the date. Absence on first-party pages is stated as exactly that: an absence of documentation, never an absence of capability.

The run the classes are delivered in

Six phases, every class, every run

The matrix scores what each platform covers. What a covered class produces is a run of the same six phases, ending in a QA gate that sits after reporting: the shape every row in the tables below is read against.

How each phase changes per class

  1. Discovery

What is there, inside the scope you signed off

  2. Planning

A mindmap, and the test cases this application needs

  3. Scanning

Candidates, none of which is a finding yet

  4. Exploitation

Proved, or dropped. Nothing survives on a guess

  5. Reporting

The report, and the findings in your dashboard

  6. QA

A gate that can send the finished report back

QA can send it back to reporting

The sixth phase runs on the finished report. When it sends one back, reporting runs again.

The matrix

Eleven classes, 5 platforms, one question per cell

Read down a class for the market; read across a vendor for their shape. The verdict column answers the one test; the middle column is the vendor’s own language it comes from; the line under each row is where it was read and when.

Three forms: prompt injection and jailbreak testing (direct and indirect), model endpoint and API security, and agentic systems: tool misuse, autonomy boundaries, unintended chaining. Model provenance and training data deliberately out of scope, by number, on the class page. Yes: first-class on the platform.

The exclusion row

Physical, hardware and wireless testing. Not a question this matrix checked for the four vendors, and nothing is claimed about any of them. Out of scope for B-52 entirely, in every class: the one exclusion, stated the same way on every page of the site.

Concessions

The row where each competitor beats B-52

One per competitor, named. A matrix that concedes nothing reads as a brochure and gets checked.

One concession per competitor, each with its source
CompetitorWhat they do better than B-52
Pentera Internal network and Active Directory depth. Pentera Core runs the internal chain: credential assessment, lateral movement, privilege escalation, domain admin compromise and segmentation, continuously against production. The B-52 column claims breadth only.

XBOW An offensive track record on scoreboards nobody controls. Ranked number one on HackerOne in June 2025; first autonomous system ranked on Microsoft’s researcher leaderboard; 14k+ zero-days claimed with named CVEs documented on their blog (xbow.com, read 2026-09-14). No equivalent externally checkable evidence is published on this estate, and waving it away would be the least credible thing the matrix could do.

Horizon3 Kubernetes, in every tier. NodeZero "deploys within Kubernetes clusters using Kubernetes Operators and Infrastructure-as-Code (kubectl)" and tests live clusters for RBAC misconfigurations, container escapes and secret exposures, entry tier included (horizon3.ai/nodezero/kubernetes-pentesting/ + /pricing/, read 2026-09-14 and 2026-10-28). Kubernetes is not one of B-52’s eleven classes. If it is on the buyer’s list, this is a straight gap on our side.

Hadrian Atlas maps subsidiaries, acquisitions, domains, subdomains, certificates and cloud hosts continuously, with hourly passive scans, new tests on every change, infostealer leak detection and an M&A assessment add-on. B-52 derives the perimeter per run and has no standing discovery product. For a buyer whose problem is not knowing what they own, Atlas answers a question B-52 has not built.

Second-order concessions carried from the compare pages and inherited here: Pentera’s production-safety guardrails, certifications (ISO/IEC 27001:2022, ISO/IEC 42001, ISO 9001, SOC 2 Type II) and Resolve; XBOW’s date-versioned public API and cloud-marketplace procurement; Horizon3’s FedRAMP High authorisation (FR1802451335) and self-service 30-day trial; Hadrian’s SOC 2 Type 2 badge and named-customer wall. Full sourcing in each vendor’s /compare/ claims table; no concession is repeated here without its page.

What will move first

Four cells with a short half-life

Every product named here is being actively developed, and a capability can arrive between one reading and the next. These are the rows most likely to move, and where to re-read them.

01 Pentera web application

The Q4 2026 GA window is open as of this writing; re-read the press release and pentera.io/pentera-platform/ before any reliance. On 2026-10-28 the platform page carried "AI-Native Web App testing" as a named solution, with no GA announcement. When GA lands, row 01 changes for Pentera and its date changes with it.

02 XBOW asset types

Their roadmap ships. The docs URL is now docs.xbow.com/console/reference/asset-types (the /target-types/ URL redirects); re-read before relying on rows 02–11.

03 Horizon3 pricing

Figures ($15/$50/$65/$85 per asset; WebApp $10,000/custom) were published by 2026-10-28 and were absent on 2026-09-14. A page this new moves; re-read before quoting any figure.

04 Hadrian, wholesale

Every Hadrian cell in this matrix was verified 2026-10-28 in one sitting: it is the youngest position on the page and the most likely to be stale. Their module list is two products deep and growing.

Source register

What was read, and when

Every cell above was read on a first-party page: the vendor’s own, wherever one exists. This is the register of those reads. Where a figure appears in the matrix, it carries its read date and expires on the next re-read.

Horizon3’s prices carry their read date and expire on the next re-read; the €1,250 figure is Hadrian’s own, quoted, never compared as a ratio.

"Adversarial Exposure Validation" appears in this register only inside Hadrian’s quoted recognition claim and Pentera’s category-language claims table: never as our vocabulary.

Hadrian has no /compare/ page; its cells here are the canonical record until one is commissioned.

How this matrix was built As of 28 October 2026
  • Every cell was read on the vendor’s own first-party pages: never on a summary, a review site or a competitor’s page about them.
  • Each cell carries its verdict, the vendor’s published language behind it, and a dated citation on the row beneath it.
  • Absence on a first-party page is stated as an absence of documentation as of the read date, never as an absence of capability.
  • Four concessions are made, one per competitor, each naming what they do better than B-52.

Deliberately excluded

  • No price ratio appears anywhere on this page. Each side’s published figure stands beside its own source and date, and the arithmetic is the buyer’s.
  • No third-party recognition claim made about a vendor is adopted as a fact of ours.
  • Physical, hardware and wireless testing are out of scope for B-52 entirely, and nothing is claimed about any vendor’s position there.

Compare the vendors page by page

Three of the four have full comparison pages, each opening on what the other product does better, with every claim sourced and dated. Hadrian’s record sits in the register above until one is written.
